About NATIONAL TASKFORCE (NATForce)
Mr. Adebisi Babalola, the Deputy Director of the National Task Force, code-named NATFORCE, said the force is now fully prepared to stop the illegal importation of Small Arms, Ammunition, and Light Weapons in the country, building on recent successes.
Small arms growth, processing, illegal importation, stockpiling, proliferation, and use, he said, are the primary causes of insecurity in most parts of the world.
The Seasoned Natforce Officer told the new NATFORCE applicants at the Command Headquarters in Ikotun, Lagos State, on Friday that the lack of proper restrictions or regulation of these dangerous weapons has resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent people and the destruction of public infrastructure and private properties.
He emphasized that the free flow of arms was to blame for the persistent kidnappings, hostage-takings, and pipeline vandalism in the Northeast, Northwest, North-central, Southwest, and Southeast.
The Deputy Director, speaking on behalf of Director Chief Joshua Uturu, urged future force members to always be law-abiding and courageous as they prepare to begin intensive training in early March in order to avoid being harmed by these imported arms.
The director cautioned them to remain disciplined and serious about their preparation, as well as to follow all pharmaceutical/Covid-19 Pandemic protocols prior to, during, and after the exercise.
He said that after they completed their training, they would be given appointment letters and identification cards and that the majority of them would be deployed in the state’s various Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas.
He went on to say that each employee would be given an account opening form to assist with the collection of their monthly salaries.
The Director thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the state’s incident commander, the Natforce Headquarters in Abuja, and other sister security agencies in the state for their help in the areas of information gathering and sharing intelligence.
